MATTERS

More than 60 years before anyone had put the words ‘craft’ and ‘distillery’ together, Marjorie Samuels from the infamous Makers Mark came up with the notion that liquor fans might actually want to spend their Saturday tromping around the factory floor – and eventually would pay to do it.

We couldn't agree more.

Hillside Estates Winery

Found on the Naramata Bench in B.C., Hillside Estates was the vision of John Hromyk, now President of IronHorse. John took an existing winery housed in a garage and built a unique 18,000 sf timber-frame production facility which included a restaurant, event centre, tasting room, barrel room, with subterranean cellars.

Production at the facility peaked at 12,000 cases with domestic and international awards won for signature wine varieties including: Muscat Ottonel, Chardonnay, Riesling Brut (traditional champagne style), Vidal Ice and Late Harvest Wines and Pinot Noirs.

Hillside Estates was also at the forefront of shipping private labelled ice wines, late harvest and red wines for customers in Shanghai, China and Taiwan.

Today, Hillside Estates winery continues to make great wine and is a flourishing attraction in the Naramata Bench in the Okanagan Valley.
